PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize storage control according to a digital signal from the conventional storage control according to an analog signal and also to optionally set storage time and read gain by simplifying the storage time control circuit of an AF sensor. SOLUTION: In the automatic focus detector, the more appropriate storage time and gain are set in accordance with brightness by changing a storage level and the read gain every prescribed time or optional time. Thus, failure caused by discriminating a storage signal level after prescribed read time elapses and deciding a storage finish level and the gain on the basis of the signal level in the conventional manner is eliminated.
