PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new composition for dyeing keratin fibers. SOLUTION: The new N-alkylhydroxylated secondary p-phenylenediamines, a composition for dyeing keratin fibers in particular human keratin fibers such as the hair which composition contains in a medium suitable for dyeing at least one such N-alkylamino secondary p-phenylenediamine, a process for dyeing keratin fibers which process consists in applying the composition, and the uses of the composition in particular in the form of a dyeing "kit", are provided.
