The gas-tight, flexible covering (10) encloses a first volume (13). The cushion padding (20) is open-cell soft foam and is bonded to the inner surface (11) of the covering. A valve (40) regulates the gas contained in the volume. A rigid shell (30) partially encloses a second volume (31) and has a surface (32) connected to the covering (10). Both volumes (13, 31) lie mutually-adjacent at the connecting surface (32). When evacuated, the cushion is compressed down onto the second volume (31). Otherwise, it is expanded out, against the second volume.
