The invention relates to a method for producing a compound of general formula (I): R-(A1-Z-)mB-CF2O-A2-(A3)n-R', in which R represents alkyl, in which one or more CH2 groups can be substituted, independently of one another, by O, CF2, CH=CH, CH=CF, CF=CF, with the exclusion of peroxide structures O-O and formaldehyde acetals O- CH2-O; A1 represents, independently of one another, 1,4- cyclohexylene, 2,5-1,3-dioxanylene, 1,3-cyclobutylene or (a); A2 and A3 represent 1,4-phenylene, in which independently of one another one to four hydrogen atoms can be substituted by fluorine or one or two CH groups can be substituted by N; Z represents a single bond -CH2- CH2-, -CF2-CF2-, -CH=CH-, -CF=CF-, -CH=CF- or - CF=CH-; B represents 2,6-disubstituted naphthalene, 2,6-disubstituted 5, 6, 7,8-tetrahydronaphthalene or 2,6-disubstituted trans-decaline; R' represents R, F, OCF3, OCF2H, CF3, Cl, SF 5, CN, NCS, and m and n independently of one another represent 0 or 1. The method comprises the following steps: a) conversion of a compound of general formula (II): R-(A1-Z-)mBX, in which X represents halogen or =O and the other symbols are defined as cited for formula (I), into a carboxylic acid derivative with the expulsion of group X and introduction of a C1 structural element; b) reaction of the carboxylic acid derivative with a phenol of general formula (III): HO- A2(-A3)n-R', in which A2, A3, R' and n are defined as cited in formula (I), to form the compound of formula (I).
