Various differently shaped transversal units can be attached to at least one vertical post (1) to be adjusted in height by rotating a spindle in a threaded sleeve (10) in order to move a ball element (14) at the top into a socket provided at a support element (19) joined to the ceiling (53). An appropriate number of adapter elements provided with joining facilities for boards (2, 3), hooks, and other suitable items (37, 38) can be fixed with different kinds of bolts to the vertical post (1).
