PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an apparatus cost and the power consumption while prolonging the life of a reflection type liquid crystal display element in the case of cooling the reflection type liquid crystal display element used for a reflection type liquid crystal display apparatus. SOLUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal display apparatus is provided with a light source, a color separating system for separating the light emitted from the light source into green band light, blue band light and red band light, a color synthesizing system for synthesizing the blue band light and the red band light, a projection system for projecting the light emitted from the color synthesizing system, a green band light reflection type liquid crystal display element for modulating the green band light emitted from the color separating system, a blue band light reflection type liquid crystal display element for modulating the blue band light emitted from the color separating system and a red band light reflection type liquid crystal display element for modulating the red band light emitted from the color separating system, and among the green band light reflection type liquid crystal display element, the blue band light reflection type liquid crystal display element and the red band light reflection type liquid crystal display element, a cooling means is arranged only behind the blue band light reflection type liquid crystal display element.
