PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which is unlikely to errors in the induce selection of image data to be printed. SOLUTION: In a printer which has a memory card connecting portion, to which a memory medium storing image data can be connected, and which can perform ink-jet recording, by directly reading image data from the concerned memory card, if a memory card is connected to the memory card connecting portion, display, promoting selection of whether an index printing is to be executed in a display portion corresponding thereto. If the user responds thereto, a display promoting selection for all of printing, printing after selection, or shift to a main menu is performed. When the printing after selection has been selected, image to be printed is selected, based on an index sheet; and as a result, selection error of images can be prevented.
