A metal pipe (3) may be pushed over a nipple (2) with a sealing ring (6) and teeth (5) angled to prevent withdrawal of the pipe. A larger diameter portion of the nipple has teeth engaging the end of a sleeve (7) which surrounds the end of the pipe. A cap (21) surrounding the pipe is screwed onto the end of the sleeve and there is a spring arrangement (10) with tangs with teeth inside the sleeve.
