The vibrator 1A is equipped with a drive vibrating reed 4 whose drive vibration is excited in the prescribed plane; a wide width section 5 formed at the head of the drive vibrating reed 4; a detection vibrating reed 8 in which detection vibration E is excited perpendicularly to the prescribed plane in accordance with a rotational angular rate of the vibrator, when the vibrator is rotated around an axis of rotation Y in the prescribed plane; and a base section 2A which connects the drive vibrating reed 4 to the detection vibrating reed 8. A groove 10 is formed in the drive vibrating reed 4.
