A method for producing thermally expandable graphite which involves serial processing natural flake graphite with concentrated aqueous solution of sodium dichromate, concentrated sulphuric acid, subsequent treatment of oxidized graphite with water, in stationary, and then in dynamic modes and drying the final product. The dried product is additionally processed with carbamide at an amount between 3 and 5 mass particles at 100 mass particles of the dried product. The method provides obtaining the thermally expandable graphite with a high coefficient of expansion.
