<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber having a structure suitable for a long-distance optical communication. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber (200) comprises a core area (210) and a clad area (220) disposed so as to surround an outer circumference of the core area (210). The clad area (220) is composed of an inner clad (221) that has a refractive index lower than the core area (210) and an outer clad (222) that has a refractive index higher than the inner clad (221). The optical fiber (200) has an effective cross section of 110μm<SP>2</SP>or more at a wavelength of 1.55μm, and, because of this enlarged effective cross section, suppresses an occurrence of a nonlinear optical phenomenon effectively even when a power of incident light is increased, allowing a longer-distance optical communication. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
