The buttonhole ribbon (10), of warps and wefts, has buttonholes (11) at intervals between the warps and along a longitudinal ribbon line (12). The warps are structured as wales of stitches and parallel stretch warp threads. At least one monofilament stretch weft, between the ribbon wefts, extends between the longitudinal sides (13,14) of the ribbon, and between the ribbon and buttonhole edges (15,16). Outside the buttonholes, where the wefts overlap they are bonded into the stitches of the warp wales.
