PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state imaging device and a driving method thereof capable of processing image data without requiring a frame memory buffer. SOLUTION: In the solid state image imaging device, by using vertical driving electrodes to receive vertical-driving signals of vertical CCDs, the vertical CCDs receive and vertically transmit image signals of vertically adjacent rows, each of the adjacent rows separated by a prescribed number of rows, and by using horizontal driving electrodes for receiving horizontal driving signals, a horizontal CCD receives the image signals by each row and horizontally transmits and outputs the received per-row video signals.
