PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a characteristic word detecting method effective for document processing for a document containing erroneous recognition and an inputting error. SOLUTION: An unknown word is detected out of the document, and a degree of consistency between the detected unknown word and a significant word held in an important word holding means is calculated to detect a characteristic word in the document, based on the degree of consistency.
