PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power unit which restrains higher harmonics while maintaining a high power factor with a simple configuration, and is usable in an area whatsoever, different in power supply voltage and power supply frequency. SOLUTION: This power unit is equipped with an AC power source 1, a bridge rectifying circuit 6 which full-wave rectifies AC from the AC power source 1, a reactor 8 which is connected between the AC power source 1 and the AC input end of the bridge rectifying circuit, a capacitor 10 which is connected via a bidirectional switch 9 between the AC input end and the output end of DC, a smoothing capacitor 7, a zero-cross detecting means 12, a power frequency detecting means 13, a bidirectional switch drive signal generating means 14, a storage means 15, a bidirectional switch driving means 16, a DC voltage detecting means 17, a load detecting means 18, and a power voltage calculating means 19.
