PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method capable of synthesizing a polymalic acid copolymer by a simple operation. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polymalic acid copolymer comprises directly polycondensing malic acid, a polymer of malic acid or their mixture with one or more kinds of hydroxycarboxylic acids excluding malic acid, their polymer or their mixture in the presence of a tin compound.
