PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device designed for upgrading the image quality of a character image. SOLUTION: The printing device has a drive signal generation part which generates a drive pulse; and a printing head which discharges small ink droplets each time the drive pulse is supplied to a pressure generating element, and can form dots of differing size in positions, on a printing medium, which correspond to pixels for constituting an image, in accordance with the number of the drive pulses to be supplied to the pressure generating element. In this printing device, a first dot is formed of a single undersized ink droplet in the positions, on the printing medium, which correspond to outline pixels laid out upto "N" dot inside the contour of the character image. Further, a second dot which is larger than the first dot is formed of a plurality of undersized ink droplets, in the positions, on the printing medium, which correspond to inside pixels surrounded by a plurality of the outline pixels.
