<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly suppress the generation of methane gas on the bottom of the water on which organic bottom sludge is deposited. <P>SOLUTION: The bottom of the water, on which bottom sludge containing organic matter is deposited, is covered with blast-furnace granulated slag to form an aerobic slag cover layer wherein the pH of void water reaches 8 or above. The pH of the water of the blast-furnace granulated slag cover layer reaches 8 or above because a very small amount of Ca is eluted from blast-furnace granulated slag particles and the water permeability of the cover layer is high from morphological features of blast-furnace granulated slag particles and the concentration of dissolved oxygen of the void water is sufficiently ensured to form aerobic conditions. Accordingly, the interior of the blast-furnace granulated slag cover layer becomes an environment making the activity of methane producing bacteria difficult to properly suppress the generation of the methane gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
