[Also in Group XXII] A ring of synthetic rubber or soft metal together with an adjacent and protruding metal ring 32 is contained in a cavity 30 in the head 14 on the stem 10 of a fastener so that as the head is drawn against the workpiece 12 the ring is pushed into the cavity to extrude the soft material 31 of the ring of rubber or soft metal into the hole in the workpiece to seal it. The fastener is of the type pulled into position by an extension 18 of the stem so that a collar 20 may be swaged on to an annularly grooved portion 16 of the stem to secure together two plates 12 before the extension 18 is broken off. |
