The invention relates to a device and method for checking the tightening of an automatic parking brake in a motor vehicle. The inventive method consists in measuring a physical property of the friction collar (3) of a brake plate (2) such as electrical resistivity or conductivity by means of a measuring instrument (5) which is electrically connected to the friction collar and in comparing the values measured during and after the tightening of the automatic parking brake with the values pre-recorded in the memory.
