PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide paper which uses an N-vinylformamide-based polymer and/or its derivative (A) to give a good wet paper strength, and has a reduced halogen ion content, and to provide a method for manufacturing the paper, by which the staining of rolls can be prevented by using the N-vinylformamide-based polymer and/or its derivative (A). SOLUTION: This paper containing the N-vinylformamide-based polymer and/or its derivative (A) is characterized in that the content of chloride ions existing in the paper is≤150 ppm per dry weight.
