Vitamin E or derivative thereof and selenium or a derivative thereof are used in the manufacture of a medicament for preventing the occurrence of or assisting in the treatment of prostate carcinoma. The active principle of the medicament consists essentially of vitamin E and selenium and acts by increasing the intracellular levels of p21 and/or p27 in a subject.
