An end unit (7), designed to receive the tips (19) of nuclear fuel rods (3), has lateral supports (51) for the tips of virtually all the fuel rods in an assembly round the upper ends of sockets in an evenly-spaced grid. The end unit itself is in two parts (29, 31), one of which comprises an anti-debris filter (31).
