It is possible to perform high-speed dubbing and suppress waste of a recording capacity of a recording medium. A data processing device can write a data stream into a recording medium of a first type and a recording medium of a second type. The data processing device includes: a reception unit for receiving the first data stream; a conversion unit for converting the first data stream into a second data stream; a processing unit for writing the first and the second data stream into the recording medium of the first type; a reproduction unit for reproducing the content according to the first data stream; and an instruction reception unit for receiving an instruction relating to requirement of the content dubbing from a user. When the dubbing is required, the processing unit reads out the second data stream from the recording medium of the first type, writes it into the recording medium of the second type, and deletes the second data stream from the recording medium of the first type.
