PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment process for tempering a thin glass sheet (≤2.5 mm), which has been hitherto difficult to perform. SOLUTION: The treatment process includes a step for forming a temperature difference of≥150°C between the surface of a glass sheet G and the center part of the glass sheet by heating the glass sheet so that the temperature at the center part of the glass sheet G becomes 630-750°C, a step for stopping heating of the glass sheet G when the temperature difference has exceeded 150°C, and a step for cooling the glass sheet G after stopping heating. It is preferable that the center part of the glass sheet is heated by high-frequency dielectric heating under such conditions that the electric field strength E[V/m] and the frequency f[GHz] satisfy the formula: 150<E<SP>2</SP>×f<300.
