PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire which can ensure a wet performance and a riding comfortability after wear has advanced while increasing a steering stability and wear resistance in the initial stages of use by using a sipe. SOLUTION: This pneumatic tire has the arrangement of the sipe 11a extending in the width direction of a tread on a block which is provided on the tread. The sipe 11a is equipped with an upper sipe section 11b and a lower sipe section 11c. The upper sipe section 11b respectively has a zig-zag like shape on a cross section in the stepping surface direction being approximately in parallel with the stepping surface of the block, and a cross section in the peripheral direction of the tread. The lower sipe section 11c is located inward in the tire radial direction from the upper sipe section 11b, has a zig-zag like shape on a cross section in the stepping surface direction, and at the same time, has a linear shape on a cross section in the peripheral direction. A cross sectional area on the cross section in the peripheral direction of the lower sipe section 11c is larger than the cross sectional area of the upper sipe section 11b.
