PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion promoting device for a stoker type refuse incinerator capable of sufficiently carrying out combustion of refuse even when low calorie refuse with a high water content or the like is mixed during a refuse incineration process. SOLUTION: The combustion promoting device is provided with a refuse feeding means 4 for feeding objects to be processed on a drying stoker 1, a driving means 5 for reciprocating the drying stoker 1, and a combustion stoker 2 positioned in the rear of the drying stoker 1, a detecting means 7 for detecting a combustion state of the object to be processed, and a control means 9 for controlling the refuse feeding means 4 and the driving means 5 on the basis of a detection result of the detecting means 7. When the control means 9 judges that there is too much unburned objects to be processed on the combustion stoker 2, the control means 9 stops the refuse feeding means 4 and the driving means 5 for a predetermined time, and then, the driving means 5 is controlled such that only the combustion stoker 2 is reciprocated at a speed higher than a speed before stoppage.
