Compositions comprising glucan (poly-(1,3)-#-D-glucopyranosyl-(1,6)-#-D-glucopyranose) are used for the treatment of skin ulceration (e.g. decubitus or venous ulcers) or for the prevention and or treatment of ultraviolet light induced skin damage. A further aspect comprises the use of glucan for the repair of bone fractures or for the enhancement of fixation of implanted orthopaedic devices. The compositions may comprise 0.25%-0.5% glucan, preferably derived from Sacchoramyces cerevisiae, in microparticulate, soluble or gel form, together with one or more pharmaceutical excipients. |
