PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an echo canceler with a simple configuration under a light load capable of naturally suppressing an echo. SOLUTION: The echo canceler calculates an echo eliminating amount by an adaptive filter on the basis of transmission signals before and after the elimination of a pseudo echo, and suppresses the transmission signal after the elimination of the pseudo echo with an echo suppression amount proportional to the calculated echo elimination amount to control the echo suppression amount greater when the echo elimination amount by the adaptive filter is high and to control the echo suppression amount smaller when the echo elimination amount by the adaptive filter is small thereby adaptively and naturally suppressing the echo in response to the echo amount by a simple configuration.
