PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of performing white balance processing of a signal whether the signal has been outputted by a linear conversion characteristic or logarithmic conversion characteristic, when the apparatus is provided with a solid-state imaging device which performs a switchover of its photoelectric conversion characteristic to the linear conversion characteristic or logarithmic conversion characteristic automatically. SOLUTION: If the luminance range and the linear conversion characteristic of a G signal lap, when an RB signal has the linear conversion characteristic, a signal from a multiplier 803 is selected by a selecting portion 813, and if the luminance range and the logarithmic conversion characteristic of the G signal lap, a signal from an adder 808 is selected by the selecting portion 813. If the luminance range and the logarithmic conversion characteristic of the G signal lap, when the RB signal has a logarithmic conversion characteristic, a signal from a subtractor 804 is selected by the selecting portion 813, and if the luminance range and the linear conversion characteristic of the G signal lap, a signal from a multiplier 812 is selected by the selecting portion 813.
