The continuously variable transmission (CVT), where belts ride between cone-shaped disks, has a variator (1) fitted with two pairs of cone disks as a primary (3) set with a primary shaft (3a,3c) and a fixed disk (3b) and a secondary (2) set, with a belt or chain (11) running between the cone disks (2b,5) of the secondary set and over the primary shaft (3a). The secondary set has a sliding setting disk (5) on a secondary shaft (2a), with an axial movement against springs (9). A fixed piston disk (6) on the secondary shaft, with sealing (8), forms a sealed pressure zone (7). The pressure zone is temporarily at an underpressure for the axial movement of the setting disk. After assembly, the actual leakage from the pressure zone is measured while at an underpressure, for comparison with a nominal leakage.
