PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To press securely and efficiently used PET bottles and reduce the volume of them. SOLUTION: A volume reducing machine is provided with a first press means 3 and a second press means 5, and the first press means 3 is provided in the state of setting a press roll 7 and a support roll 9 in parallel and close each other, and a number of protrusions 11 having protruded ends of the height not being in contact with the surface of the support roll are formed in lines in the axial direction of the press roll 7 at the given intervals on the surface of the press roll 7, while a number of protruded lines 13 are protruded in the axial direction of the support roll 9 at the given intervals on the surface of the support roll 9, and the second press means 5 is constituted of a support section 31 and a press body 33 driven linearly in the direction of moving close to and away from the support section 31.
