PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine with an injector installed above a cavity capable of ensuring a space of installing an ignition plug and forming gas mixture lump with fuel uniformly distributed in the layered combustion. SOLUTION: An injector is installed in an inclined manner with respect to the axis of a cylinder. A bottom face 121a of a cavity is inclined with respect to the axis of the cylinder corresponding to the inclination of the injector, and orthogonal to the injection direction line n. In this setting, the angle a1 formed between the bottom face 121a of the cavity and the injection direction line n is larger than the angle a2 formed between a reference plane perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder and the injection direction line n.
