PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bulk false twist polyester yarn having a high breaking strength of≥5.0 cN/dtex and nevertheless free from fluffing and yarn breakage trouble and producible in extremely high stability, and provide a method for the production of the yarn. SOLUTION: The false twist polyester yarn having a breaking strength of 5.0-6.0 cN/dtex, a breaking elongation of 15-25% and a total crimp percent of 10-20% is produced by the false twisting process of a drawn polyester yarn having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.7-0.9 and a birefringence (Δn) of 0.15-0.21 in a manner to get a crystallinity increase (Δρ) of 0.01-0.02 in the false twisting process.
