PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-use recorder even for a user familiar with a tape. SOLUTION: The recorder comprises a means for recording an image data on a random access recording medium, a means for reproducing image data recorded on the recording medium, a means for generating information indicative of the image data recording position on the recording medium when recording of the image data is stopped, and a means for controlling the reproducing means to start reproduction of the image data, in response to a preview instruction, a specified time before the recording stop position and to stop reproduction at the recording stop position.
