The side airbag module has a gas generator (16), a folded airbag (14) and a generator holder (20) with which the gas generator can be attached to a vehicle. A guide element (22) for the airbag on the holder is arranged near an upper end of vehicle pillar cladding with the module fitted to the vehicle and has a guide area (24) that guides the airbag over the upper pillar end when unfolding. An independent claim is also included for vehicle cladding, especially roof lining, with a side airbag module.
