METHOD FOR PREDICTING THE EXTENSION OF AN OIL SPOT AT WATER SURFACE

The present invention relates to a method for predicting the extension of an oil spot at water surface for the purpose to determine the dimensions of the area of the possible pollution of the aquatic environment. The proposed method consists in determining the velocity vector for the movement of the oil spot in each of two or more directions, with consideration for the velocity and direction of the wind and water stream, and determining the resulting velocity vector for the movement of the oil spot by geometrically adding the components of the resulting velocity vector according to a specified formula. The proposed method provides a possibility to increase the accuracy in determining the area of the possible pollution of the aquatic environment on actual or expected accident with a tanker.
