<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polarization inversion region of a short period at a ferroelectric single crystal within the time at which controllable voltage is applied and to provide an optical wavelength conversion element using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the polarization inversion region at the ferroelectric single crystal comprises a step for forming a controlling layer on a first surface of the ferroelectric single crystal, wherein the first surface is vertical to the polarization direction of the ferroelectric single crystal and an order property of lattice points of the controlling layer is lower than that of the ferroelectric single crystal, a step for forming a first electrode on the controlling layer, a step for forming a second electrode having an area smaller than that of the first electrode on a second surface opposed to the first surface of the ferroelectric single crystal, and a step for applying an electric field between the first and the second electrodes, wherein spontaneous polarization which the polarization inversion region produced from the second electrode side has is ended on the first electrode side via the controlling layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
