PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality by successively making a transition of the smoothing processing of an image and an edge emphasizing processing for an image processing method for performing processing, such as edge emphasizing processing, and an image processor. SOLUTION: The image processor comprises an edge amount operation section 2 for calculating a value for indicating the degree of flatness or the degree of sharpness for each single pixel or for a plurality of pixels in the image inputted via a mouse scanner 1; a filter coefficient operator 3 for obtaining a filter coefficient, based on the value calculated by the edge amount operator 2; and a two-dimensional filter operator 4 for performing filtering processing on the pixel by the obtained filter coefficient. The filter coefficient operator 3 outputs a coefficient for processing a smoothing filter, a coefficient for processing an edge emphasizing filter, and a coefficient successively changing from the coefficient of the smoothing filter to that of the edge emphasizing filter, when a value for indicating the degree of flatness or the degree of sharpness indicates a flat portion, a sharp portion, and the intermediate portion between the flat and sharp portions, respectively, for inputting to a filter operation section.
