PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate nonlinear distortion of an equalization wave. SOLUTION: An add section 49 subtracts an input reproduced signal from the response of a partial response determined from a decision value of a Viterbi detector 45, and determines intersymbol interference. An add section 42 adds the input reproduced signal and a forecasting result applied from a noise forecasting section 43, whitens colored noise components included in the reproduced signal, and eliminates the intersymbol interference. An add section 44 eliminates the nonlinear distortion determined by the response of the partial response from a reproduced signal, by adding an output of a filter section 48 to an output of the add section 42. The Viterbi detector 45 detects and decides a binary from the reproduced signal of which the noise components are whiten, the intersymbol interference is processed, and the nonlinear distortion is eliminated.
