PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a process and a structure for accurately counting up crank counter. SOLUTION: In an engine ECU generating a multiply clock of which cycle is "1/multiplied number" of cycle of the crank signal from the crank signal of pulse line of each predetermined angle interval corresponding to rotation of a crankshaft and counting up the crank counter indicating rotation angles of the crankshaft by the multiply clock, the crank counter consists of a high order counter 11a and a low order counter 11b. The high order counter 11a is counted up by an effective edge of the crank signal, and the low order counter 11b is counted up by the above mentioned multiply clock and cleared by effective edge of crank signal. Even if pulse interval of the crank signal changes due to acceleration and deceleration, count value of the crank counter naturally becomes a right value which it should be at the timing of effective edge which is a break of the pulse interval.
