<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new exhaust gas treatment method capable of efficiently treating an exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides and metal mercury over a long period of time and also adaptable to the treatment of a large volume of the exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: In this exhaust gas treatment method, a denitration catalyst is used in treating the exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides and metal mercury to treat the nitrogen oxides before metal mercury is converted to mercury halide in the presence of a halogen compound using a mercury halogenating catalyst. As the denitration catalyst, a catalyst of which the whole pore volume measured by a mercury penetration method is 0.20-0.80 cm<SP>3</SP>/g is used. The catalytic temperature of the denitration catalyst is set to a temperature higher than 300°C and the catalytic temperature of the mercury halogenating catalyst is set to 300°C or below. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
