A mechanism for controlling the movement of a member 8 supported by hinge means 14, spring means 50 being provided to bias the movement of said member 8. The member may be supported by two hinges at spaced locations, with means extending between the two hinges which includes said spring means 50. Alternatively the member may be supported on a second member by said hinge means 14, a pair of mutually pivoted levers 18A, 18B being provided, each of which are pivotally connected to the first and second members respectively, the spring means 50 biasing the levers about their mutual pivot so as to bias movement of the pivoted members. The spring means may be a tension spring 50, a torsion bar (122, fig 8) or compression spring unit (74, figure 5). The mechanism may be used to regulate the opening of a window pane in a vehicle tailgate.
