Laundry items (10) are stretched out and centered in the middle by an input conveyor (12), e.g. a mangle. The items of washing (10) are transported to a spreading device (17) by means of a supply conveyor (11). Said spreading device transfers the laundry items (10) to an input conveyor (12). Known devices (input devices) are not able to supply laundry items (10) to the mangle in such a way that the full potential of high-performance mangles is used and mangles can mangle the laundry items (10) with the high degree of quality required. According to the invention, the supply conveyor (11) is provided with a triangular-shaped conveying surface and is formed by two superposed conveyors between which the respective laundry item (10) can be stretched out. As a result, the laundry item (10) can be transferred to the spreading device (17) in a stretched out state.
