Several cigarettes (15) are attached to carriages (12) and held in position by a vacuum created inside the conveyor drum (10) and acting on the items (15) through an opening (17) from below. The carriages (12) can be slid along a stationary bar (18) and are activated by an electric drive designed as a linear drive (30) or as a moving coil (20) and controlled regarding their position by an electronic device (25, 35).
