METHOD FOR TREATING SULFURIC ACID PITCH

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely and easily treating even solidified sulfuric acid pitch that may cause illegal dumping.

SOLUTION: Sulfuric acid pitch can be dissolved or dispersed in an aqueous solution of a hydroxide of an alkali metal to obtain a slurry-like solution by neutralizing the sulfuric acid pitch with the aqueous solution of the hydroxide of the alkali metal such as sodium hydroxide. The thus obtained slurry-like solution has a good handling nature. For example, the slurry-like solution in which sulfuric acid pitch is dissolved or dispersed can also be sprayed and incinerated in an incinerator.
