PLANE LIGHT-EMITTING DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a downright backlight device improved in the uniformity of brightness.

SOLUTION: The backlight device 51 has diffusion bars 52 arranged between lamps 11 in opposition to a liquid crystal display panel 2. The diffusion bars 52 of cylindrical resin with a thickness a little larger than and a length almost equal with a diameter of the lamps 11 are placed almost in the middle of the lamps 11. Light irradiated from the adjacent lamps 11 or light reflected from a reflecting plate 12 is incident into the diffusion bars 52. The diffusion bars 52 diffuse and reflect the light incident and irradiate it. In other words, the diffusion bars 52 irradiates light of a constant brightness (at brightness in accordance with the incident light) as if they were just one light source.
