PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure stability and travelability of a vehicle according to road surface characteristic of a traveling road surface in connection with a steering characteristic control device of the vehicle. SOLUTION: The steering characteristic control device is equipped with a braking mechanism capable of braking the right and left wheels respectively, a steering characteristic determination means 34, a steering characteristic control means 21 starting and ending steering characteristic control, and a road surfaceμdetermination means 37 determining a road surfaceμstate of the traveling road surface of the vehicle. A control end determination condition is provided with the control end determination condition for a lowμroad, and the control end determination condition for a highμroad where the vehicle stability condition is gradually set than the control end determination condition for the lowμroad. The steering characteristic control means 21 determines the end of the steering characteristic control by the control end determination condition for the lowμroad when the traveling road surface is determined to be the lowμroad by the road surfaceμdetermination means 37, and determines the end of the steering characteristic control by the control end determination condition for the highμroad when the traveling road surface is determined to be the highμroad.
