PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink tank capable of detecting the residual quantity of ink in an ink tank accurately through an extremely simple arrangement and capable of detecting the residual quantity of various inks other than magnetic inks, and to provide a recorder. SOLUTION: A coil 18 is provided in an ink tank 20 and that coil 18 touches ink in the ink tank 20 so that the inductance is varied depending on the residual quantity of ink in the ink tank 20.
