Optical observation apparatus for monitoring area of object whereby light sensitivity of sensor is tuned to pulse cycle to allow display of different colors

The optical apparatus has a display unit having controllable display pixels which provide light in different colors to generate a display image from a number of image points. An overlay unit overlaps an image from the display with the image of the object area. A camera unit with an image sensor receives the overlaid image. A display pixel of the display unit generates a pulse sequence train from light pulse sequences with light pulses of light in different colors. The light sensitivity of the image sensor is matched to the pulse sequence train such that the sensor can detect light pulses of different colors from the pulse train of a display pixel. Independent claims also cover a method of operating such an apparatus.
